seaweed harvest

seaweed to boost the new mandarin tree

The seaweed came in today and so we rushed to gather some while the tide was low. Now we have tucked up the fruit trees and our secret garden to overwinter. Fruits of the sea!

Hope the passion fruit vines like seaweed?

And this week the hellebore has decided to put on a show and the bulbs have started coming out - can this really be winter?

 Love Blue, x

  1. Monty Don was only saying on Gardeners World that a good organic feed is liquid seaweed! He was showing how to make a liquid feed from nettles and I've decided to try it out.

  2. Hello Gardener, I've been drinking nettle tea this week! You will have to send me the details for making the liquid feed - any gin in it? Blue x

  3. Hello blue
Find a large bucket or drum that you can cover, nothing precious, fill it with nettles, top up with water ( I was going to say rainwater but that's what you harvest!), cover and leave to steep for about 4-6 weeks. You will now have a very smelly concoction that you will need to strain off. Dilute the 'elixir' about 1 to 10 and feed that hungry garden whilst drinking your nettle tea! Perfect and free!
